FIC PC Systems to Take Advantage of New Intel® Chipsets

Taipei 22 May 2003- FIC is very proud to announce the launch of several new PC systems today that will feature motherboards based on new Intel® chipset technology. The new 865 series chipset, also launched today, will feature a new faster front side bus (FSB) and will offer a significant performance boost to motherboards supporting Intel® processors. Ernest Cheng, Executive Assistant to the Chairman at FIC commented, “We’re very pleased to be able to provide a range of PC systems featuring the new technology to coincide with the Intel® chipset launch. It’s always been a goal of FIC to produce quality products ahead of the competition.”

The new 865 series chipset supports 800MHz FSB, advanced Hyper Threading technology, AGP 8X support, DDR400 memory support, USB 2.0 support and support for the very latest Intel® P4 processors at speeds up to 3.06 GHz and beyond. New small form factor systems include the Sheba and Solomon models. New standard PC systems will include PCXpress and PCPremiere models. Hyper-Threading Technology is a groundbreaking innovation from Intel® that enables multi-threaded software applications to execute multiple threads in parallel. Until now this facility has not been available to mainstream users but new Intel chipsets mean that motherboards in the mainstream market can now benefit.

The Sheba System is designed around a proprietary motherboard based on the Intel® 865 chipset. The Sheba system measures just 300 x 280 x 76mm, resulting in a total volume of only about 6 liters. Modular construction and thumbscrew fixings allow tool-less servicing and the chassis features Kensington lock fixings for added physical security. The advanced VL 63 motherboard features on-board video and audio, 1 standard PCI slot and 1 low profile PCI slot. There are also drive bays for HDD, FDD and optical drive. The compact size and impressive performance of the Sheba system makes it an ideal choice for POS applications.

The Solomon System is based on a micro ATX motherboard with Intel® 865G chipset. Because the Soloman System uses a standard sized motherboard, upgrades are easy. The chassis measures 346 x 310 x 95mm and features standard drive bays. There are 3 PCI expansion slots and integrated audio and video.

PCXpress is designed for standard micro ATX motherboards and will feature the VL35G based on the Intel® 865G chipset. Expansion is possible with 3 PCI slots and 1 AGP8X slot. The VL35G features onboard audio and video, support for up to 8 USB 2.0 ports and support for up to 2GB of DDR 400 memory. The PCPremiere is designed for standard ATX motherboards and will feature the VL11P based on the Intel® 865PE chipset. The VL11P features 5 PCI slots and 1 AGP8X slot. Other features include on-board audio, support for up to 8 USB 2.0 ports and support for up to 4GB of DDR 400 memory.
