Award-Winning Fujitsu LifeBook P Series Cuts Cord By Integrating Wireless Functionality

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb 26, 2002 -- Fujitsu PC Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited, today announced its award-winning LifeBook P Series will now be available with integrated WiFi-compliant wireless LAN capabilities (IEEE 802.11b). Ideal for business professionals, commuters, students and technology enthusiasts, the world's smallest, full-featured notebook lets users stay continuously connected to a wireless network while at home, school or work without the need for cords or cables.

"The LifeBook P Series is a completely unique machine, blurring the lines between traditional notebook categories," said Sara Nelson, vice president of marketing for Fujitsu PC Corporation. "By blending wireless LAN capabilities together with an ultra-compact form factor, efficient processing power and entertainment functionality, Fujitsu's LifeBook P Series allows users the freedom and flexibility to access the Internet and work in a variety of locations such as coffee shops or airport lounges."

The LifeBook P Series (Model P2040) was recognized as "Best Notebook" and overall "Best of Show" at COMDEX Fall 2001 for its exceptional value, compact size and innovative features. Fujitsu is confident the addition of wireless LAN functionality will further enhance the appeal of this award-winning notebook. Starting at $1,499(1), the LifeBook P Series is the smallest and most affordable notebook on the market. It measures only 10.6 inches wide by 7 inches deep by 1.59 inches high and weighs a mere 3.4 pounds, yet its two-spindle design incorporates a variety of features that differentiate it from any other notebook.

Among the features that put this notebook in a class of its own is the integration of a multi-functional modular bay, which can accommodate either a DVD/CD-RW combo drive or second battery. The DVD/CD-RW drive gives users the ability to watch DVD movies or burn CDs without the burden of cables or external drives. For those requiring extended battery life, the combination of the modular battery and high capacity battery provides up to an unprecedented 14.5 hours of computing time. If users wish to travel light, the LifeBook's standard battery can still achieve up to an impressive 3.5(2) hours of battery life.

Even as one of the smallest notebooks in the market, the LifeBook P Series features a 10.6-inch wide SXGA TFT display providing a 15:9 aspect ratio for letterbox look and 5.1 surround sound quality, courtesy of Dolby(R) Headphone(TM) software. Thus, the LifeBook P Series is ideal for reviewing spreadsheets or viewing DVDs.

In addition to IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN connectivity, the LifeBook P Series includes a built-in modem and an integrated 10/100 base-Tx Ethernet standard to allow communications in any type of environment. Fujitsu has also added an IEEE 1394 port for ultra-fast digital video and data transfer.

The LifeBook P Series houses Transmeta Corporation's 800MHz Crusoe(TM) TM5800 Series processor specifically designed to save energy while still providing full processing power in battery-mode. It is pre-installed with either Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional to provide users with a choice of operating systems that best fits their individual computing requirements.

The LifeBook P Series with the integrated WLAN option is available via Fujitsu's Configure To Order (CTO) program at or 1-877-FPC-DIRECT and through the company's retail and reseller channels.
