Hitachi Debuts Notebooks Based On Transmeta's Crusoe Processor

SANTA CLARA, California, (October 27, 2000) - Hitachi Corporation has introduced a new line of thin and light notebooks powered by Transmeta's battery-extending Crusoe processor. The three models in the FLORA 200 series feature 3.1 to 4.3 pound notebooks that run for 10 hours or longer on a single battery charge.

"Hitachi's FLORA systems take full advantage of the user convenience features enabled by Crusoe, including long battery life, light weight and low noise performance," said Jim Chapman, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Transmeta Corporation. "We are pleased to have worked with Hitachi on these corporate- and consumer- friendly machines."

The FLORA series will come in two configurations. The first uses a 533MHz Crusoe chip with a 10.4-inch screen and weighs 3.1 pounds. The second notebook uses a 600MHz Crusoe chip with a 12.1-inch screen and either a CD or DVD drive. These models weigh about 4.3 pounds and feature a battery that extends operating life. These systems will be available in Japan in late October 2000.
