ASUSTeK Computer Inc. announced last week the release of the ASUS A7V, a Socket A motherboard

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. announced last week the release of the ASUS A7V. This latest VIA KZ133-based motherboard from ASUS supports the AMD Socket A Athlon (Code name: Thunderbird) and Duron (Code name: SpitFire) processors and provides one of the best ATX form factor solutions. Athlon processors are designed to provide "leading-edge performance for cutting edge applications" for power and advanced users while Duron processors are specially designed to provide low cost but optimized alternatives to existing processors for value conscious business and home users. In addition to the support of standard SDRAM, the A7V supports NEC's 64Mb Virtual Channel Memory (VCM) Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, a new generation of memory that provides up to 50% faster SDRAM speed with reduced power consumption.

This motherboard supports 200MHz front side bus as well as the UltraDMA/100 IDE interface (onboard Promise ATA 100 chip). The A7V with ASUS ASIC and VIA Apollo KZ133, consisting of the VT8371 North Bridge controller and the VT82C686A South Bridge controller chipset, bring on the AMD processor platform a higher level of performance for desktop PCs.
