Overclocking the card

While PCstats.com is pretty impartial when it comes to choosing a GPU brand (ATI or Nvidia, it doesn't matter to us), I expect them to overclock like a daemon, or back to the store they go.

With the knowledge that the Gigabyte X600XT videocard overclocked so nicely, there were obviously a lot of anticipation about how the MSI RX600XT-TD128 videocard would handle its overclocking tasks...

We started to raise the clock speed of the X600 core slowly from 500 MHz through to 550 MHz. Continuing on, the core speed passed 575 MHz and 600 MHz.... but could not rise past 610 MHz. There were no visual artifacts visible, and the temperatures seemed fine, but anything above 610 MHz would generate a blank screen when running 3D benchmarks.

The MSI RX600XT-TD128 videocard had its memory clocked at 384MHz by default. Going up slowly we were easily able to crack the 400 MHz mark. Continuing on, the memory was able to pass 430 MHz with ease, ending up at a maximum oveclocked speed of 438 MHz. Not too shabby at all! Since the core and memory overclocked well together, the overclocked benchmarks will be run at 610MHz core / 438MHz memory.

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, it continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001SE has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics.

Higher numbers denote better performance.

The MSI RX600XT-TD128 videocard does well in 3DMark... better than the nVIDIA competition anyway. It scores slightly lower than the Gigabyte X600XT, but that's because it's clocked slower at stock.
